Oh, that would explain a lot. I dated an onionphobe for a while, that was hell. She couldn't stand Twizzlers either. To this day I indulge in them less, shuddering as I pass the vending machine with memories of her refusing to kiss me. When she lived in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania, the big event in town was the farmer's market. Right in the middle of the market was a giant stand selling sausages cooked with piles of onions, where an Amish guy would cover a bun with the mix for a reasonable price. When it was raining, and everything had to be indoors, she could only stomach half an hour or so under the tent. Everything reeked of onions. It smelled heavenly.
The buns aren't that bad, or at least they aren't when I've had them. Maybe midwest White Castles have poor quality control, or they're shipped buns from out here and degrade in the truck. Or maybe I don't let them sit on the plate long enough to notice. That could be it.
