In Seattle

It's late.

Pricing out of rental forgot to include insurance. Ouch. Luckily, I get paid in a few days.

Anyway, I'm being mocked for typing so much so late at night, keeping people up just so I can type. So I'm going to stop that now.

Yeah, they always screw you with that personal liability insurance. Over in Europe, they screw you if you want automatic shifting. Sherrill and I are going to Scotland, and for 10 days rental, it would be 300+ dollars more for auto...

That's crazy.

Luckily, I remembered that I had been expecting to pay more in order to help my car pass inspection, so I've got that dough socked away to fall back on.

So all is well.

Donuts are good.

If you already have auto insurance, your policy should carry over to the rental which negates the whole needing to buy their insurance which is akin to prison rape.

Unless you don't in which case = *not helpful*

Hmmm, I do.

But it runs out while I'm out on this trip, and I get my new card while still on this trip.

Fuckshit.

Damn.

Oh well.

Actually, it expires on the 8th, the day we turn it in. So I think we're going to try to cancel it.

Thanks!

Ok, you just saved our dumb asses over $300. So we're totally buying you drinks this November. Lots of drinks.

Wooo!

I'm glad I could help. Rental insurance unless you're renting in another country is a total racket and I've had more than one rental agent, once they've seen my proof of insurance card, admit it.

I gets to rent a car in Seattle this fall, and I was not aware of this insurance-deely. Thanks, mate!

No problem.

I recommend checking the language of your insurance policy to make sure rentals are also covered- but the vast majority of policies now always cover rentals, too. You just bring your proof of insurance card or a copy to the rental agency when you pick up the car. Though, I've only had to show proof once- most of the time telling them that you have a policy that covers you already is good enough.

We didn't have to show them anything except the car so they could see that we hadn't wrecked it in the meantime.

So, yeah, thanks again. We were tired when we got in, it was late even for local time, and we got suckered into it against our better judgement. And now we have money to burn.

Yeah, and even when we went to Mexico, it was just an extra $50 fee for insurance there.
