My current ranking for the flicks, from best to worst, as of today:
  1. V: The Empire Strikes Back
  2. III: Revenge of the Sith
  3. IV: A New Hope
  4. II: Attack of the Clones
  5. VI: Return of the Jedi
  6. I: The Phantom Menace
  7. IV.5: The Star Wars Holiday Special
If you have a similar list with the exception of III, you'll probably love III. I know many people would disagree with me placing II in the middle of the holy trilogy, but I think people put them on too high of a pedestal. Don't get me wrong, I love them. But let's not forget that Lucas hasn't written good dialogue since American Graffiti, and that the acting wasn't always the best. Sometimes, even as a kid, I wanted to smack Luke and 3PO around and yell at them to stop being such whiny bitches.

So, looking at the IMDB record for III, I see Ahmed Best listed as Jar Jar. Jar Jar has a non-speaking role in the movie. Does this mean that he got his lines cut before the theatrical release? I wonder who made that call, and how bad it could have been. I kind of liked his role in II as being semi-responsible for the downfall of democracy, after the huge fan backlash (I thought the Gungan chief was far more annoying, despite having much less screen time). I wonder if that was changed to give the fans some sort of joy in watching their hated character water the seeds for the Empire.

aww you linked me!

i think it's awesome that they made him the fool that helped bring down democracy in 2 - but i'm SO PISSED that he wasn't murdered, i mean everyone else gets it but him?

i really thought that's what we were waiting for. bah!

Re: aww you linked me!

A friend of mine hypothesized a while ago that Jar Jar would die saving Obi Wan's life somehow...that might have been cool...too bad he was wrong...

Well you are aware Lucas has committed to two series (one cartoon, one live action), right?

From: [identity profile] kingfox.livejournal.com

Yeah, I was joking.

I'm interested to see how it goes.

I'll TiVo it, of course, but I'm nervous to see how it transitions formats. Images of the Young Indiana Jones series flash through my head.

I never thought I'd see the line ``need more fanfiction!!!!'' typed in my journal. Wow.

Re: aww you linked me!

Of course I linked to you.

Believe me, I was thinking the same thoughts while watching it.

Recently I was watching the episode of Deep Space 9 where Sisko argues with the president of the Federation about civil liberties, freedom, and safety during times of war. As much of a dorky nerdface goon as I sound writing this, I got incredibly upset that a fictional president being portrayed as a hapless fool was far less embarrassing than our current president.

SPOILERS
.
.
.

I agree about the dialog comment...American Graffiti was so good, what happened? Anyway I noticed Ahmed Best listed as well. I'm not sure why either, thank again I must have entirely missed whomever was suppose to be Mon Motha, because she got a credit *shrugs*

I'd get into Jar Jar, but I don't have time at the moment...

Also I'd say I'd post my list, but I don't know that I will because it's a little embarrassing, I buck the tides on quite a bit of the series.

Please, seriously, post your list. Considering your taste in movies, I'm really interested in how you rank them all.

Mind you, while my order might not be that far off from the norm, I'm also not placing the bottom that far below the top.

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_guy_incognito/

Well I figure most people will either post them in one of two orders:

1) Best to worst in terms of quality of movie
2) Best to worst in therms of how much they like them.

My list would differ from most in that I try and combine those to lists to get an overall list.

From: [identity profile] kingfox.livejournal.com

I'd like to think that my list is a combination of the two, but it's probably more of the latter, as we live in a subjective reality for the most part.

Plus, it's hard to do the former, considering the years spanning the gap between VI and I. Sure, you can take that into account, but that's hard to do.

So, enough excuses. List me!

Well I got some things I NEED to get done before I leave today.

Tonight I hope to get started on getting my router set up (since I should HOPEFULLY have my bridge). If I get on-line tonight with my PC from home (which I haven't been since I moved) I'll definately post that list tonight, otherwise remind me tomorrow and I'll try post it here or maybe in my own post (if I can finish up my Sith likes/dislikes)

that's a really good ranking. ya know, i STILL haven't seen the holiday special.

Ahhhhh...is that the one with Chewbacca's family? God that was dreadful! You can see some long clips of that on I Film but I'm too lazy to do a search.

It's absolutely hilarious. From the cartoon to Jefferson Starship to Bea Arthur, it's just a painful laugh riot.

My roomie and I once inflicted it on a huge Star Wars fanboy our freshman year. He was drinking at the twenty minute mark.
